Ya Think?

I'm thinking it's time to go grocery shopping. I'm not sure how well received a dinner of scrambled eggs and peas garnished with salsa and a dallop of sour cream would be. Poor Kylie also got the shaft with her school lunch. She is still too nervous to buy a school lunch by herself, so I made a desperate attempt to pack a semi-edible lunch for her. Here is the result: turkey sandwich, mandarine oranges, peanuts and chow mein noodles. Yes, I said chow mein noodles. I did mention that I was desperate, didn't I? I absolutely despise grocery shopping, so I tend to wait until the absolute last minute. It's such an ordeal and entails a two day process. The night before I spend hours coming up with a 2 week menu, making my shopping list, categorizing my list for easier shopping, going through the adds to find price matches and last but not least, clipping coupons. Then comes the daunting 2 1/2 hr. shopping trip. It's not so bad when I can do it during the day while the kids are in school, but there are the rare occasions when I have to do it at night after Jason gets home. I dread it. Wal-mart becomes a totally different place after dark. Instead of being taken over by all the mormon moms and their kids, a whole new crowd comes out. Like my experience with the "Wal-mart Woody" guy, who followed me around and was, well, let's say...easily aroused in the toy aisle. CREEPY! I knew last night would be no different as I am walking in and a guy gets tackled right in front of me and is slammed to the ground and hand cuffed while screaming like a little girl. Oh yeah, that's why I love Wal-mart.

Jamie, this is so funny! I hear ya! You have to "load" your cart with food then un"load" onto the checkout counter, then "load" into your car then un"load" onto kitchen counter, then "load" into fridge and pantry. It is EXHAUSTING, and your right about preping! The menu lists, cleaning out the pantry and fridge first, going through the ads, it's crazy!!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot - I left one time after being followed around by some creepy guy, too!

I am a Mormon mom who only goes during the day and I love how nice and peaceful it is. When I go to my parents house in CA the Walmart is so ghetto and I hate going there. In AZ it is one of my favorite places to shop because of the price matching. I will be sure to not go there at night without my hubby :) "Walmart Woody"...that is sick and wrong, it makes me never want to take my kids to the toy aisle again :) I am glad I am not the only one who hates grocery shopping. My mom goes a few times a week and I don't understand how she can do it, I dread it...especilly with 2 kids! (thank goodness I have you to baby swap with!)

Jamie, which Walmart do you go to? Girl the freaks come out at night! I wish I was that passionate for coupons. I like to add match but the coupons kill me. Hey can you e-mail me the same TWO-week menu and I will just copy it? You are to dang organized. I wish I was more like that! Hey thanks for babysitting my sick child while I was gone! Guys I swear! I sooo owe you big time! Please call me and I will do babysit anytime!

Like I said, never again! Precisely why I don't shop there. Plus the half hour drive! I go grocery shopping once a week, it does get old, especially with 2 kids and I have to go with both of them each week! UGH!

That picture just helped me understand why it is so easy for you to keep your fridge clean. Thank you. I don't feel so guilty now. I'm so impressed with all your prep work on your grocery trips. I plan a menu out, write up a list and head out for my weekly grocery shopping trip. It's definitely easier without kids, but that hardly ever happens. I'll make sure I stick to Wal-Mart during daylight. Thanks for the heads up. FREAKY!

Oh my! I guess they know you're comin, huh!? I can't say that I have ever had such odd encounters although I hate Walmart for other reasons & I love it at the same time! Once a week is the way to go, you will like it & then you can go throughout the DAY in all your spare time with 0 kids! :) And holy cow, that is a barren fridge!! I'm amazed you still came up with a lunch for Kylie!

Hey, if your fridge didn't look so freaking clean I would say that now is a great time to clean out the fridge. Oh well.

Amen to everyhting you said! I am glad I'm not the only one who puts it off until the last possible moment. I HATE grocery shopping! My cute hubby always says he'll go for me...but that means the grocery bill being tripled in cost (love ya, babe!) as he thinks you have to buy all 3 bags of chips (for example) of it's 3 for $5. What a hilarious post!

Marc didn't believe me that the walmart closest to us is kind of ghetto until we went christmas shopping together one night for a date. when we left a little before 10, marc says to me, remind me never to come here again this late at night! and he's a guy.

I had the exact same experience at our friendly Wal-Mart. A guy was tackled and handcuffed right in front of me while I was walking out, he however had a knife. And it was during the day, I only go there if I have to. I do love how organized you are with the meal plans, someday I will try and do that. :)

If you ever need to borrow an egg, just let me know...... :-) That's pretty funny! At least I don't see any mistery items, like the ones hiding in the back of my fridge!

Wal-Mart drives me crazy...I will pretty much do anything just to get out of going there! I am one of those weird people who goes to the store a couple of time throughout the week because I forget to make lists and never plan my meals ahead of time....its a problem I need to work on!

That is hillarious! Ok...why do I always come away from El-WalmartO with a story. That place brings out the crazy people. I was behind a couple last week who were fighting about who was going to charge who with domestic violence. Nice...and it was only 4 pm.

I hope you got some food by now...and I hope your feeling better. Were you able to get tickets for S.C. tomorrow?

Nobody hates Walmart more than I do. Try going in this town. I went to the one in Gilbert last week (where I used to live) and thought it was so nice!

I've started doing better at shopping the ads and stocking up on what's on sale just so I can shop at Safeway or Fry's. I feel like I deserve it! I try not to go to Walmart more than once a month.

And how do you shop for two weeks? That's amazing. I agree - planning menus gets SO old, but I can't go grocery shopping without planning everything out first.

And to Marisa - that must be a husband thing. My husband always buys however many they say, even if there is no way we could use it all. He also never gets the right stuff, and spends about triple what I do. It's nice to feel needed :-)

Hi Jamie,
How is your fridge so empty and I read all of your great recipes on the recipe blog???....I thought for sure you would have a packed fridge!! I wish mine was that clean!

Yikes! I don't like going at night either, but I certainly don't have any scary stories like that! I can't believe your fridge is so empty!!! But at least it IS nice and clean!
