A little updating

It's hard to believe we've been in this house for almost 12 years, that's the longest I've ever lived in the same house by twice the amount! Things have been looking a little tired, worn and dated and it was in need of some freshening up. Despite hiring out the majority of the work, it was still so time consuming. We had to move everything out of the entire downstairs and loft and all the pictures off the wall, it was just as much work as if we were moving. Tearing up all the laminate flooring was time consuming (I logged 36 flights of stairs on my fitbit the day I hauled all the laminate from upstairs), but it wasn't hard work. What was hard work was scraping up all the glue from the linoleum that was under the laminate in the kitchen. We lived without a kitchen for about a week, keeping the fridge in the garage and cooking a lot of crock pot meals. The biggest project for us was probably the baseboards. It didn't seem like it would be too bad, but there are so many steps in the process. Measure the walls, make the cuts, paint the boards, install the boards, caulk the seams, spackle the nail holes then paint it again. I listened to  A LOT of audio books during this renovation process. But it was all worth it, I love how everything looks! It's amazing what a difference new hardwood floors, lighter paint, kitchen back splash and taller baseboards can make. The bathrooms are up next, but we need to take a little break for now!
