I had seen this recipe before, but when I came across it in the midst of blog hopping (I prefer blog hopping to blog stalking :) and saw it advertised as "the best syrup ever", I knew I had to give it a try. And believe you me, it DID NOT disappoint! All I need now is a good stuffed french toast recipe to go with it (you know, the really creamy, fruity kind). It's okay to occasionally eat all of your allotted daily calories in one sitting, right? Yeah, it's THAT good.
Buttermilk Syrup:
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup butter (don't cheat, use the real stuff)
2 tablespoons corn syrup (I substituted maple syrup)
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS: In a saucepan, stir together the sugar, buttermilk, butter, corn syrup, and baking soda. Bring to a boil, and cook for 7 minutes. Remove from the heat, and stir in the vanilla.

Don't you worry, I have the perfect stuffed french toast recipe for you! I will email it to you once I dig it out of one of my unpacked boxes- promise! And I say- yes, eat all the calories you want when your as skinny as you are!
Yummy! I so need a good french toast recipe too! I LOVE this syrup we add 1 tsp. of cinnamon and it is great on waffles too.
Jodee, I will be anxiously awaiting the recipe, thanks and good luck with the unpacking (I'm still checking your blog daily for your Costa Rica pics!) and Suni, just when I thought it couldn't get any better...I'm excited to try the cinnamon in the next batch!
Yum, I am going to try this recipe this weekend!
I would have to agree that this is the best! I don't make it very often because of it's heafty calorie count but when I do. It's amazing!
After all the talk about this heavenly recipe, I can't wait to try it! If I don't have enough time to squeeze in a Martha Stewart moment and make it before you get here, I'll have to have you coach me in person.
Awesome...My mother in law made that syrup once. I wanted to drink the whole container. Good work you domestic Diva you.
Okay, we make this. Slightly different ratios, though. Also, I add the baking soda at the very end, after taking it off the heat. Stir it in and the syrup foams up...that is pure heaven.
Wow, am I like the last person in the world to discover this recipe??? Where have I been? Thanks for the new tip, Crystal!
NO Jamie, out of my MILLIONS of recipes, I have never seen it either, sounds DELISH! Oh, I have one called Cinnamon Cream Syrup, maybe its similar, but I love the tang & creaminess that buttermilk gives so I will whip this one up!!
I have this recipe and it's divine! Tatum refuses to eat maple syrup now and to be honest so do I! It's like having dessert for breakfast, not that I don't anyways!
Jamie - I love when you post recipes! I have never seen this one before either, if that makes you feel better. I just got a delicious waffles recipe that calls for egg whites that have been beaten stiff, they are so light and yummy. So this syrup recipe comes at a perfect time. Can you make a big batch and save the leftovers of the syrup in the fridge? I am going to try this out this weekend. And when you find that perfect stuffed french toast recipe, let me know! I have never made that before.
Super yummy. I haven't even had French Toast forever. I will have to try it, and soon. I guess that's what happens when you work everyday and have soccer on Saturdays and a husband who is gone all day on Sundays. We usually have breakfast for dinner once a week because we love it. We will definitely try it. Thanks
Yes, Cammi, it makes alot and you can save it in the fridge. I'm not sure how long it will last since it has buttermilk in it, but I would think a couple of weeks maybe?
That is our family traditional syrup. Every holiday we make eblescheebers(sp) and German pancakes with buttermilk syrup! If you dont want to buy a big thing of buttermilk to make it you can just add vinager to your milk and let it sit for a few minutes and it makes buttermilk. Cool, huh?
Jamie- I just need to get your email address from you. Mine is haltermanfamily@hotmail.com if you could let me know that would be great!
Yeah baby!!!!!! I'll be trying this out tomorrow morning!
Those look yummy. Thanks for the recipe. I will add it to my (what I like to call) family recipes when really they are all Jamie Youngs recipes.
This syrup was a big hit here today! Thanks!! Keep the recipes coming. I am trying to stay on track with planning yummy meals, but I get bored with the same old stuff.
