The last of El Paso

We ended our time in El Paso with a tour of downtown. We picked through the stalls at the market, sampled some Mexican pastries, took in the exhibts at the art museum and strolled the streets admiring the architecture. And honestly the highlight for the boys was being able to see the border fence up close. They were begging to pull over so they could stick a finger through and claim that they had been to Mexico.

We also took a day trip out to Hueco Tanks. It is such a cool place with all sorts of rock formations to climb and explore. It was pretty much boy heaven. They immediately created an elaborate game of war and took their strategy plans and tactical ops very seriously. It was fun seeing them lost in their imaginations enjoying the great outdoors with cousins. But no matter how focused they were on the game, Ryder never failed to be a complete gentleman. He was always staying behind to make sure the lady folk were well taken care of. He was so concerned that Janessa and I would get lost or stuck on a rock and offered his tiny little hand whenever he could. Be still my heart.

We made it home in time for Sonic's happy hour and then wrapped up our week of Fall with homemade caramel apples. Or at least an attempt at homemade caramel apples.

The evening before Maddox had scoped out the perfect spot to watch the sunset. He was so excited to show it to me on our last night there. He calculated the time for optimal viewing to be at "7:05 or perhaps 7:10". I was sure to be there five minutes early just to be safe. I love how he appreciates the beauty in the world just as much as I do. We loved our time exploring new places with some of our favorite people, it will definitely be a trip we won't soon forget! Even if the long drive and fighting made me want to poke my eyeballs out.
