Cali Day 2

The first thing the boys wanted to do when we woke up the next morning was hit the pool. With a view like that, I wasn't arguing. It was nice having a slow relaxing morning. After their swim Jason wanted to check out the pier since he wasn't with us the night before.

We checked out of our hotel in Oceanside and headed down to San Diego. We made a few pit stops along the way, namely for the best ice cream we have ever had. Handel's Ice Cream came highly recommended, and even with all the hype it still did not disappoint. Jason was still talking about it for days after. Ryder said he wanted a donut instead so we found a cute little donut shop on or way. Of course the minute he finished his donut he was crying for ice cream and continued to eat about half of Jason's cone.

We made one more pit stop to hike Annie's Canyon Trail. The kids were 100% not on board with a hike. It was like pulling out teeth to convince them to come, and even then only the little boys finally agreed. I'm sure there was some bribery involved. I knew they would love it, and I was right. It was a fairly short walk (with Maddox freaking out the entire time that we were going to get eaten by a mountain lion) to the coolest little slot canyon. The boys had the best time climbing up rocks and shimmying through narrow slots. Once we got out of the canyon they were begging to go back and do it again.

I had a whole list of places to go and things to do in San Diego, but as always there is so much to do and so little time. I'm glad we were able to squeeze in a stop at the Waterfront Park. It is one of the coolest city parks I've ever seen. There is a fun fountain made for swimming and an awesome playground with state of the art equipment. The ships and city skyline also made for a pretty epic back drop.

The kids were anxious to play in the waves again, unfortunately the sun was going down by the time we made it to the beach. But fortunately that meant we were able to catch a beautiful iconic California beach sunset. We were all shivering and covered in sand by the time we made it back to the car. Everyone got hot showers and Mexican popsicles while they gathered around the ipad singing "dumb ways to die" in the hotel room. Jason and I snuck out to the store to grab some sunglasses, rash guards, and a few minutes of peace and quiet. It was a good ending to a good day.
