Random

Here are a whole lot of random happenings that happened over the summer months. I mentioned that Kylie went to EFY again this year and had such a great time. I stole this photos off her phone, so they'll just have to speak for themselves.

Between scout camp, the family reunion, basketball camp and then staying with Brenton, I think Jayden was only home for a week or two the entire summer! He had such a fun time and it was good for him. Especially after last summer when I noticed he was getting a bald spot on the back of his head. Of course I immediately googled "alopecia" and spent the whole summer worried that my 12 year old was going bald. We finally concluded that he had just rubbed his hair off from spending all day in his bed, much like how a newborn baby wears a bald spot on the back of their head. We still laugh about it. So yes, no need to worry about bald spots this summer, Jayden had a fun filled few months! I wish I had pictures from scout camp and basketball camp. His scout camp was especially cool, they got to go repelling, kayaking and experience the Flagstaff Extreme Ropes Course. He had a great time. Spending a few weeks with his cousin Brenton was also a highlight. He was living his best life playing Fortnite on the projector in the theater. They also spent a few days in Vernal at Brenton's baseball tournament and had plenty of fun around town. Here are a few photos Troy and Sam sent to us.

It was free Chick-fi-A day. We normally don't participate in dressing up like cows in the name of free food, but we were really feeling it this year. So much in fact that we went to three different locations. Not sure why we haven't done this every year-ha!

And speaking of dressing up, Dawn got Maddox a mustache kit that he shared with Claire. This photo just makes me smile. Those two are the cutest, he is just so sweet to her and she totally adores him!

Jayden has got such a great group of friends this year, or I guess I should say "squad". Some of them he has known since elementary school. Like the one kid that gave him an Elmo coloring book on his 6th birthday and he swore he would never invite him to his party ever again. Glad he has since forgiven him and that they are such great friends.

And the heat hasn't stopped the boys from riding bikes after school with the neighbors. I love that they posed this whole scene for Maddox to photograph.

I finally gave some much needed love to the guest bedroom. It feels so fresh in there now and I'm just waiting to have guests come stay!

Two of our Laurels graduated this year so we spent a girl's day in Scottsdale going to lunch, eating ice cream and doing some shopping. I just love working in Young Women's and getting to know these amazing girls, it truly is so rewarding.

Of course most weekends you'll find us at the lake. We did a couple's date night on the lake one evening and it was a nice change from our usual Thai food and Wal-mart date nights. I wish we would have gotten a photo of the whole group, here are just a few Matt took.

Jason went to California for his annual guy's lake trip. Somewhere along the way his annual snowboarding trip has now included an annual lake trip, but it's good for him. The only problem was that he jacked his ankle up really bad at church ball and he spent the weekend hobbling around. He didn't let it slow him down on the wake surf, but pickle ball and wake boarding weren't a good idea.

Speaking of Jason's poor ankle. It was so swollen that he couldn't put his church shoes on, instead he shuffled around like an old Chinese man wearing flip flops and socks. In a motion of unity, he showed up the next week for his meetings and the bishopric were all wearing socks and flip flops. His calling may be very time consuming, but at least he has great guys to work with.

Some days at the lake are perfect. Some are less than that. This evening was one of those lesser trips. On the way up Jayden's friend turned back and saw that one of the windows on the boat was shattered. Like completely shattered. We pulled into a parking lot to assess the damage and there was glass covering almost every square inch of the boat. We were sure we were just going to turn back and go home, but we had to wait for some friends that were coming so that they could take some gear up for the youth trip the next morning. While we were waiting we painstakingly started picking up all the glass and surprisingly were able to get it mostly picked up before they came, so we decided to still go and just wear shoes in the boat since we were almost there. By the time we got out on the water and got the ballast bags set up, the sun was going down and the monsoon storms were coming in. I've heard horror stories about being on the lake when a monsoon hits and was super nervous to get caught in the storm or to get a ticket for surfing on the water after sundown. We managed to get off just in time, but I swore off going back to the lake for the rest of the season. Thankfully that didn't last long.

Jason, Kylie and Jayden woke up early the next morning to go back to the lake for the youth lake trip. I wasn't able to go since I had to stay behind with the little guys, but I know they all had a great time. And honestly, after the stressful night on the lake the night before I wasn't too anxious to go again. But they had a great time!

Jason has been the fun dad that takes Kylie and Jayden's friends out on the weekends too. I don't have any photos from Jayden's boys trips, because boys don't believe in photos, but here are a few that I got off Kylie's phone. And there you go, lots of fun memories big and small!
