Prom

Kylie wasn't 16 in time for the school prom, but she was in time for Mormon Prom which is just as big of a deal around here. Dylan asked her to prom on her birthday and spoiled her just a little, ok a lot. They are best friends but also like each other, but swear they aren't boyfriend/girlfriend. It's a complicated relationship. But they do have so much fun together and she was so excited to go to her first dance.

I had nostalgic flashbacks as we walked around the mall looking for a prom dress, the same mall that I used to take her to when we first moved to AZ 14 years ago were staying in a hotel for a few weeks until we could move into our house. I would push her in her stroller across the street from the hotel to this mall to play in the play area and shop at Baby Gap. How is it possible that that same little girl who would snuggle up on my lap to read books at Barnes and Noble is now walking around that same mall looking for a prom dress?? Blows my mind. We didn't end up finding a dress that she liked and just for kicks she had tried on my old prom dress and we both fell in love. She looked absolutely stunning and I loved that she wanted to wear it. We did have a little too much fun in the dressing room when she tried on a dress that resembled Tinker Bell and sent a picture to Dylan. He wasn't quite sure how to react...."do you think your tie will match this?" "ummm....maybe" "do you like it" "sure, it looks a little poofy". He showed it to his dad before he knew it was a joke and his reaction was "it looks like something that crawled out from the sea!". Too funny, he was a good sport! When he came to pick her up that evening and saw her come down the stairs with her real dress on, he got a little teary eyed and it was the sweetest thing ever. She looked beautiful and they had a great time! For their day date the weekend before he took her paddling at Saguaro Lake.
