Sedona

I can't believe we've lived in Arizona for almost 6 years and we have never been to Sedona. How emberassing. We only spent the day there, but are already making plans to come back and go camping this summer. We strolled down main street admiring all the cheap junk and beautiful views of the red rocks, ate at the local's favorite, "The Coffee Pot", where I've never seen the kids get so excited about eating pancakes for lunch and I've never seen that many pancakes served from a kids' menu. Then we headed to the famous "slide rock", where it's like this big river that runs over this smooth rock surface so that it creates a big water slide. The water was freezing, but the kids wanted to get in (okay, so maybe I had to convince them to get in, cause I'm a good mom like that) and they had fun going on the mini slides, but the bigger rapids we saved for a much warmer day. After drying off we went for a hike which turned into an adventure. It started out great, but then the kids got cold. We had to find a way to cross the river, which wouldn't have been as bad if we didn't have to carry the kids across. I almost fell in the river. Jayden got a life threatening flesh wound on his finger from a thorn. The park was about to close and I was convinced we would have to camp in our car because the gates would be locked....but alas, all's well that ends well and that little adventure turned out to be one of my most memorable parts of the trip. Then we headed to Flagstaff....every time we go to a hotel the kids always play "office" sometimes it's a principal's office, sometimes it's a fireman/police office, sometimes it's a librarian's office, it doesn't matter as long as it's an office. They each stake their claim to a desk, table or nightstand and very meticulously organize it with a phone and all the free pens, note pads, shampoo, the Bible and whatever they can get their hands on. Then they play for hours visiting each other at their office and writing letters back and forth. I love that it never gets old and they always pick up right where they left off the next time that we stay at a hotel.

What a neat place. We should totally try and meet up with you guys on our way out to Utah next summer. We'll have to see how much Jolley time we can talk our hubbys into:) I love the dramatic river crossing story and pictres. I think my favorite one is of Jason on the rock with the kids clinging to him. What a brave dad! Glad you didn't get locked in the park. I love Kylie and Jayden's "office" play. It reminds me of our postal system we set up when we did homeschool. We all had our own desks and would deliver notes to each other. Didn't we even make some flyers and adds to "mail" out to everyone. Your kids will have some fun memories to look back on someday. What a fun family vacation!

Your kids always seem to enjoy the hotel stay just as much as the rest of the trip. So cute. I love that last pic so much!

Me again. I know, I need to get a life. Just checking to see if you've done any more updating today. I'll be patient. I just wanted to add though that I love your hats. Super cute! I also love all of Kylie's cute cheeser poses. She reminds me SO much of you when you were little. I always thought you were so cute and cool - I still do:)

I'm so glad you were able to go on this trip! I'm starting to miss the outdoors now that the weather is getting cooler. We were suppose to go camping in October but we had too much going on that month.

Oh, I love Sedona. Okay, the office scene totally brought a flashback to when my sister and I were little and we used to pretend that we worked in a model home office, it was pretty much our favorite thing in the world to do!!
